High-Bush Blueberry is a deciduous shrub growing up to
6-12 feet tall and wide. The dark glossy green leaves are elliptical
and up to 5 cm long. The underside is pale green. The flowers are long
bell- or urn-shaped white to very light pink, 8.5 mm long with the tips
curled back. The sepal-cup is light green and hairless with 5 short
broad teeth. The sepal-cup is much shorter than the flower. The
flower-stalks are light green to red and either hairless or finely
short-velvet-hairy; they are up to 1.2 cm long. The flower-stalk bases
have prominent bracts that are light green to red, elliptic to ovate in
shape, and hairless. The fruit is a 6-13 mm diameter blue-black berry.
High-Bush Blueberry is native to North America, cultivated as a garden
plant elsewhere.
